Discover how to safely and confidently use artificial intelligence (AI) in your daily life. Taught by Hinsdale Central student researcher Isa Ibrahim, founder of VolksAI. This hands-on workshop covers practical tools that can help you write, plan, organize, and protect yourself online. No prior tech experience is needed.
Participants are encouraged to bring a phone, tablet, or laptop. Library Chromebooks will be available for those who need a device. Each session includes simple demonstrations, printed handouts, and time for guided practice.
Program guides and printed materials will be provided each week.
Technical support will be available before and after each session.

A three-part sequence in applied AI literacy, developed for adult learners and delivered through community-based instruction.
AI 101 — Foundations of Generative AI
Workshop I
An introduction to the principles underlying generative AI systems, designed for learners with no prior technical background. Participants develop a working mental model of what these tools are and are not, examining common misconceptions against real-world examples of AI in daily use. The session concludes with a guided practicum: participants compose an original message or recipe using AI assistance, applying course concepts in a low-stakes, hands-on setting.

AI 201 — Digital Safety and Risk Literacy
Workshop II
Building on foundational concepts, this session addresses the applied risks of an AI-saturated information environment. Participants are trained to identify scam communications and fraudulent messaging, and learn to leverage AI tools themselves as a line of defense in evaluating email and message legitimacy. The course also introduces core practices in safe and private web browsing, equipping participants with durable habits beyond any single tool or platform.

AI 301 — Applied AI for Everyday Living
Workshop III
The capstone session translates prior instruction into sustained daily practice. Participants learn to use AI for practical household organization, including to-do lists, meal planning, and health-information lookup, while also exploring voice-assistant tools and reminder systems suited to daily routines. The workshop closes with independent practice, as participants pose their own real-world questions to AI and receive guided feedback.
